Between 1485 and 1490 he received a half-timbered upper floor with a corner turret and a high pointed helmet. In 1757, this half-timbered structure was removed and replaced by a pyramid roof. Around 1850, the tower received a crenellated flat roof with polygonal corner turrets. Cretums and corner turrets were removed in 1958 and restored in the course of a general renovation in 1990/91. The tower has been privately owned since 1804.

The historic Mainzer Torture is closely connected to the history of the Hotel "Zum Turm". After a fire, the right half of the house in Zollstraße 48, corner Schloßweg, was rebuilt by the helmsman Johann David Erlenbach, the left half by the official pharmacist Bertram Simon. In 1849, owner of the left half of the house in Zollstraße 50 with the Mainzer Torrum, died. This makes the Erlenbach couple as the founders of the hotel "Zum Turm“..

Today

The historic "Mainzer Tormum" today offers a generous living space of around 60 square metres on three floors and was extensively renovated and modernly furnished by us in 2008. Two very nice tower rooms with comfortable box spring beds are located on the first and second floor. On the second floor, the comfort double room has an elegant rain shower in a niche. The tower is equipped with satellite TV, telephone, minibar, iMac computer and an impressive panoramic view of the Rhine. Regardless of the number of people, the tower is always rented as a complete unit, since the sanitary facilities are only available once.

On the top level, a cosy lounge with multimedia equipment, a small wine bar, an espresso bar and a sofa bed (160 x 200 cm) invites you to linger. The sofa bed can be used as an extra bed if required.
